What is laser therapy? 

Laser and light therapy, sometimes called photobiomodulation, uses focused light energy to reduce inflammation and pain and support tissue repair at the cellular level. It's used across physiotherapy, veterinary practice and sports rehab, often alongside other electrotherapy modalities.

Do I need a Class 3B or Class 4 laser? 

Class 3B devices (up to 500mW) are the most common in physiotherapy, effective for wound healing and pain relief in tendons and joints, and safe to use in a standard clinic room with goggles worn by therapist and patient. Class 4 devices (500mW and above) allow faster dosing, but need more controlled-access, and more rigorous training. For most clinics, Class 3B covers the majority of cases; Class 4 suits busy sports medicine or pain clinics where treatment speed matters.

Is laser therapy suitable for dogs and other animals?

Yes, laser therapy is widely used in veterinary and equine rehabilitation for joint pain, wound healing and post-surgical recovery. Our SpectraVet range and the Trimlaser units are built specifically for animal use.

What's the difference between the trimlaser range and the Photizo units? 

The trimlaser and SpectraVet ranges are professional clinic and veterinary lasers, Class 3B and Class 4 devices for use by trained practitioners. The Photizo range is a lower-power, at-home light therapy device suited to general pain relief and skincare rather than clinical treatment.

Do I need laser safety glasses? 

Yes, for Class 3B and Class 4 devices, both the practitioner and patient should wear protective eyewear rated for the specific laser wavelength in use. We stock protective glasses and goggles alongside the laser units themselves.

What are the contraindications for laser therapy? 

As with other electrotherapy modalities, avoid treating directly over active malignancy, over the eyes without protection, or during pregnancy without clinical supervision. Always follow the manufacturer's contraindication list for the specific device and power class.
