Self Adhesive Electrodes

Explore our range of self‑adhesive electrodes  (also known as self adhesive electrode pads, including Dura Stick and Dura Stick Plus) designed for use with electrotherapy devices, TENS units, EMS and muscle stimulators. These pre‑gelled electrode pads offer reliable skin contact and conductivity to support effective electrical stimulation and pain relief treatments. Ideal as replacement or consumable accessories for Dura-Stick, Durastick and other electrode adhesive pads, they help ensure consistent performance and comfortable application in both clinical and home therapeutic settings.

Choosing the right self-adhesive electrodes

Self-adhesive electrode pads are the consumable link between an electrotherapy unit and the patient's skin. They carry the electrical current from a TENS, EMS or muscle stimulation device without the mess or setup time of gel and strapping.

The main things that vary between products are pad size, shape (square or round), connector type, and how many times a pad can be reapplied before the adhesive wears out. Getting these right for the device and treatment area matters more than most practitioners expect. A pad that's too small for the muscle group won't give even current distribution, and the wrong connector means the pad simply won't fit the lead.

Difference between Dura Stick and Dura Stick Plus

Both Dura Stick and Dura Stick Plus have a hydrogel adhesive that is meant to be tacky during repeated application. The Dura Stick Plus has a higher tack formulation and was formulated for prolonged wear time and improved adhesion on drier and/or more mobile skin.

Both are available in snap connector and standard pin lead formats, so check which your device uses before ordering. Round pads (3.2cm) suit smaller treatment areas like hands, feet or facial muscles. Square 5cm x 5cm and 5cm x 9cm pads are the standard choice for larger muscle groups such as the lower back, quads or shoulders.

Getting the most out of self-adhesive electrode pads

Pad life depends on skin condition, storage and how well the pad is looked after between sessions. A few things that extend usable life:

  • Reapply the protective film after each use rather than leaving pads exposed to air
  • Pad should be stored at room temperature and laid down
  • Pre-clean the area to ensure its complete drying before applying, since oils and creams decrease their adhesive properties
  • Replace pads once conductivity or tack noticeably drops, rather than pushing them past their working life
  • Most clinics find pads last anywhere from 10 to 30 applications depending on use, though this varies by pad type and how the skin and equipment are prepared.

Ordering for clinics and organisations

trimbio supplies NHS Trusts, private physiotherapy and sports therapy clinics, and community organisations across the UK. If you're ordering electrode pads alongside other electrotherapy consumables, such as ultrasound and conductive gels or patient leads and straps, get in touch and we can put together a combined order. All orders over £75 ex VAT qualify for free standard delivery, dispatched within 2 working days.

For ECG-specific consumables, including electrodes designed for cardiac monitoring rather than electrotherapy, see our ECG Accessories range.

Questions and Answers

For what purposes are self-adhesive electrodes utilised?

Self-adhesive electrodes are designed to conduct electricity from TENS, EMS, muscle stimulator or interferential apparatus to the skin of the patient. These are single-use accessories that keep getting replaced as opposed to being used repeatedly

How does Dura Stick differ from Dura Stick Plus electrodes?

Dura Stick Plus comes with a more adhesive component as compared to regular Dura Stick, hence offering longevity and more adherence, especially in areas where there is limited mobility or less moist air. The products come in identical sizes and connection systems, making it just a question of suitability in different treatment environments.

ticky pads are a separate product designed for cardiac monitoring, and are stocked in our ECG Accessories category.

Are self-adhesive electrode pads the same as ECG stickers or ECG dots?

No. Electrodes that can be applied using adhesive on this page are meant to be used with electrotherapy machines such as TENS and EMS machines. ECG stickers, ECG dots and ECG sticky pads are a separate product designed for cardiac monitoring, and are stocked in our ECG Accessories category.

How many times can a self-adhesive electrode pad be reused?

This depends on the pad and skin condition, but most clinical pads are designed for multiple applications, commonly in the range of 10 to 30 uses, before conductivity and adhesion drop enough to warrant replacement.

What connector types do Dura Stick electrodes come in?

Dura Stick and Dura Stick Plus pads are available with either a snap connector or a standard pin lead connection. Please check which you need first before ordering, as they are not interchangeable.

Do you sell self-adhesive electrodes to the NHS/clinics?

Yes. trimbio is an NHS-approved supplier and regularly supplies NHS Trusts, private clinics and sports organisations. For bulk or purchase order enquiries, contact the team directly.
