On the other hand, a conductive gel, also known as electrode gel or conductivity gel, enhances electrical contact between the electrodes and the skin in TENS, EMG, or muscle stimulation.

Regardless of the term used, the ultra sound gel, gel for ultrasound, or ultrasound jelly refers to the same clear and water-based coupling agent.

Difference between ultrasound gel and conductive gel

They are both water-based and non-oily but are formulated with differences that depend on their purpose:

• The ultrasound gel is designed for acoustic transmission with ultrasound therapy heads and diagnostic probes (Aqua and Cytolax).
• The conductive gel is specifically formulated to reduce impedance at the skin electrode interface so that TENS, interferential and muscle stim units can have a clean signal.
