Upholstery Cleaning Guide

Please read the instructions below fully, regarding the care of your New Upholstery.

The upholstery supplied / fitted is PVC Coated Polyester cotton Fabric. Full product specification can be found at the bottom of this document.

Care:

If you have new upholstery fitted to your couch, it should last you for many years if taken care of correctly.  If, however, it is exposed to direct contact with patients (sweat, skin oil, saliva), oils, lotions, and cleaning fluids, these will all add to a shorter lifespan for the upholstery. The more exposure to these, the quicker it will degrade. The degrading will normally start to show signs with the upholstery going hard as the plasticisers break down,
once hard the upholstery will split as it is unable to flex when depressed. This commonly happens around the face hole or where the couch is most in contact with patients, such as chest and shoulders areas.

We recommend that a protective cover is used if you wish to ensure the upholstery lasts, such as Clinic Armour

Please do not use any oils on the couch without taking measures to protect it first; this is because oils remove the protective layers on the vinyl. (This can take the form of couch covers, couch rolls and other protective measures.)

We also don’t recommend using solvents, abrasives, synthetic detergents, wax polishes, leather cleaner or aerosol spray, as these can also cause damage to your upholstery.
Do not use any sort of pen on your upholstery, and in the case of transfer of dye from clothing, clean immediately to stop permanent staining.

Cleaning:

Prior to cleaning your upholstery, ensure the couch is off its wheels, and if the couch is electric, it is unplugged from the mains.
To clean your couch please use warm soapy water and a damp cloth to wipe down the upholstery, followed by a dry cloth to absorb any residue left on the upholstery. Ensure you don’t soak the couch as this can cause couch hinges to rust, and the upholstery may not dry if it soaks through.

If more in-depth cleaning is required after the use of oils & creams or where disinfection is necessary, the following products are suitable:

Clinell Universal Wipes, Milton, Actichlor Plus (1 tab per 1L of water), Chlorine Dioxide (10%). However, please note as stated above these will all cause the upholstery to wear over time not only from the product but also the effect of rubbing the couch many times each day.

To clean the couch frame & parts use a dry cloth, regularly wipe the frame, gas struts / friction bar system, hydraulic pump / motor etc, to stop the buildup of dust which could affect the smooth functioning of the components.
Control handsets can be wiped over using Clinell Universal wipes
Ensure cleaning materials are safely disposed of.
